On the Go: I See Fire by Ed Sheeran

If you didn’t know, Ed Sheeran is probably one of the most underrated artists out there. He is so talented that my soul weeps for the lack of attention his music receives.

This song is from the soundtrack of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (I always want to pronounce that as Smee). I paid $5 to Amazon to rent the movie because Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman were in it together – my favorite British Bros (Sorry Professor X and Magneto)!

While listening to the music at the end, I heard the sweet, sweet voice of Ed singing and I about fell off my couch. I have a soft spot for epic movie soundtracks (for example, Breath of Life by Florence & the Machine from Snow White and the Hunstman and Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey from The Great Gatsby).

Listen and tell me this isn’t as epic as epic gets!

I wonder if I could create an Epic Songs station on Pandora?

On the Go: My Autumn List Part 2

Say what you will about Glee, those kids can sing and nothing feels better than hearing a song that used to make you cringe be sung in a way that makes you want to cry. Usually I would also put the original, but it’s not even worth it (sorry Ne-Yo).

Then we have Running Up That Hill covered by Track & Field:

I hadn’t heard this version before and I think it’s my favorite of all of them. This version is from the Warehouse 13 Soundtrack. Epic! There isn’t an official video, but this one is good and it has the lyrics (sorry if you’re not into lyric videos!)

And for some good ol’ fashion Florence + The Machine:

I finally created a Pandora channel for FTM and when I first heard this song I thought she was saying, “I’m so happy.” You can imagine my chagrin when I tried looking for it and realized it was Heavy.

And of Finally Breath of Life, also by Florence + The Machine. The movie was blah, but this song. This song gave me life after watching the comatose looking Kristen Stewart try to act like a brave version of Snow White (lest we all forgot, she ran away from her evil Stepmama in the Disney version and then ate the apple from the stranger…so, not the best role model out there).

This version is so epic and I am partial to orchestras as you all well know, so here we go!

On the Go: My Autumn List Part 1

So I’ve been doing who knows what these last few months. I have been listening to some good music though!

 

So in no particular order (in fact, I hit randomize on my iPod) let’s start with Phoenix:

I first heard this band during the Made in America Festival in August. I DIED. They are fantastic!! My favorite song so far?

Next came Lana Del Rey with Young and Beautiful from the Great Gatsby Soundtrack:

Can I just say how amazing her voice is? How perfect she is in every way? ::swoon:: And that Orchestra!

On Facebook, Bones (the TV show) was telling people to go listen to them. So I did. And I fell in love. This group reminds of One Republic. They are so good, I think I have two of their songs on here!

On the Go: Radioactive by Imagine Dragons

Okay, so up until last week, I didn’t know who this group was. I will freely admit this. But as I was perusing some Justin Timberlake music, I noticed that iTunes had this on their top 10 List. Of course, I listened to the 1:30 sample and thought, this is really good!

I downloaded it along with some JT and RiRi. Imagine my surprise when I heard this song on the television. Now I have to wonder if I liked it so much because it’s good or because I was subconsciously familiar with the song. As I sit and listen to it now, I can’t tell you what they used it to market and I’m taking this as a good sign. If the song is memorable for me as a song and not as the soundtrack to some random commercial, then it has to be good, right?

As a disclaimer, this video is weird as hell.

On the Go: Mirrors by Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake, JT, the lead in N*Sync. Yes…him! So, I was not blown away by his first single off his new album The 20/20 Experience. BUT! His new single, Mirrors, is the bomb.com. Seriously, it is perfect in tempo, beat, harmony and lyrics. This should have been his first single. I’m not a big fan of buying songs from iTunes, but I snatched this up yesterday from there.

I usually have my top songs from the album the song came from, but I honestly haven’t listened to anything else other than this song since yesterday afternoon. Just being 100% here.

So, for all those who haven’t heard it yet, enjoy!

On the Go: I Know You Care by Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding. I’m so shocked that she’s still not super popular in the US. She has a way of singing that is raspy and full of so much emotion. Usually, when a person sings, they lose their accent. She manages to keep it and it adds so much more to the music.

As I was youtube stalking her, I came across this song. Absolutely beautiful – a must share.

Her album,  Halcyon has some amazing hits on it. Some of my favorites are:

  1. Anything could Happen
  2. Lights
  3. I know you Care

So, go on and enjoy this soft ballad.

On the Go: Shake It Out by the Cast of Glee

Last week, I mentioned Florence + the Machine’s Shake It Off. Well, last season, the cast of Glee sang a version of the song that was really great. The scene is always very poignant and adds a whole other level to the meaning of the words as they sing them.

Of course, the original is even better but, I wanted to show you how awesome musicals are!

On the Go: Stay by Rihanna feat. Mikky Ekko

I will be honest, I know Rihanna isn’t the best singer out there, she’s not even a particularly good singer. But, her album, Unapologetic is amazing. Say what you will but the collection of music on that album is just hit after hit. This new single of her’s: Stay ft. Mikky Ekko speaks to my soul in a way a song hasn’t since Florence + the Machine‘s Shake It Off.

Here are some of my favorites (in no particular order):

  1. Love Song (feat. Future)
  2. Diamonds
  3. Pour it up

On the Go: Jon B and Jagged Edge

Went to see Jon B and Jagged Edge last Thursday with Dee. It was so crowded and hot at the park I was ready to leave before the music even started. Summer stage is ridiculous up in Harlem.

I will say this, though, Jagged Edge just got way cooler since I found out they wrote Nice & Slow. You know, the song by Usher everyone was having babies to? Yup, way cooler!
