Book Report: Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer

Midnight Sun Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Midnight Sun is the much anticipated retelling of Twilight from Edward Cullen’s perspective. An unedited partial draft was illegally leaked onto the internet in 2008; consequently, author Stephenie Meyer put the project on indefinite hold.
Shortly afterward, she posted a letter to her fans on her website including a link to the entire partial draft of the book so that those who wanted to read it could do so legally and with her consent; see URL for more information:

In this short preview, I realize why I love Edward so much in the books (not to be mistaken with the movie Edward *shudder*).

He truly, genuinely loves Bella. and the progression is believable, simply because he has so many extra senses.

This version, in Edward’s own words, adds a depth that was missing in Twilight. He is no longer standoffish and a little weird, but as human as any other character in this series.

It also gives great feedback on the reasons why he left Bella in book two. I always wondered WTH that was about. But in Midnight Sun you can actually see the gradual determination to try to protect this idiot girl from danger that she just seems to throw herself at.

My favorite scenes were of Edward daydreaming about what he would do to all of Bella’s Beaus. Hilarity, it just makes you love him all the more!
