Book Report: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1)Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life. Then she’s captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership. In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She’s amazed she doesn’t end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn’t have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side … and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

This was my first audiobook and I have to say having someone read the book to me was a new experience. It added more depth to the characters and made things funnier by hearing the inflections. And because the narrator made distinctive voices for each person it was easy to know what was dialog and what was action.

If I was reading this on my own Bones may have been more attractive to me, as it stands I find him funny, and appealing, but not necessarily someone I’d find dark and seductive.

Cat I found funny from the beginning, if a little naïve after 6 years of vamp hunting. She definitely grew on me though.

The plot was engaging, although I figured out the top dog early in. And I can’t wait to read (or listen to) the second book. I’m hooked!
