On the Go: The Roots at the Edison Ballroom

The last couple of days I’ve been hanging out with my good friend, Dee. She managed to get me into the Roots concert at the Edison Ballroom. This is how the other half and the lucky few apparently live. Amazing buffet and open bar, while you get serenaded by an awesome band.

Obviously, Dee has been holding out on me and I am in the wrong industry.

The event is sponsored by Tremor Video. And boy do they know how to treat a girl right!

Must go enjoy my concert!

On the Go: Death to the Storm – Joe Henry

I downloaded a bunch of free music when iTunes was giving promotional music on Facebook back in 2009. I listened to a few and then promptly forgot they existed. Well, now that I have a new iPod, my entire playlist is currently on shuffle. And thank the powers that be, because I happened to stumble upon this little beauty right here! It’s very jazzy and smooth. Looking forward to finding more gems on my iPod.

On the Go: Anberlin and Switchfoot Concert

A couple of months ago, I went to see Anberlin and Switchfoot at the Best Buy Theater. Needless to say, it was amazing!

I’ve written about Anberlin before, but this post is mainly about Switchfoot. They are by no means a new band, in fact, they’ve been around for years. I knew about two of their songs, but I was blown away by their performance. They truly know how to entertain a crowd and they sound absolutely stunning!

Their current album, Vice Verses is a well crafted work of art! I’m not big on buying whole albums, mostly because I never like enough songs to justify paying for the entire thing – but I preview the album and I found myself clicking buy song after song until it made more sense to pay for the entire album than each individual song.

Some of my favorite songs are:

  1. The War Inside (track 3)
  2. Restless (track 4)
  3. Dark Horses (track 8 )
  4. Vice Verses (track 11)
  5. Where I Belong (track 12)
  6. Needle and Haystack Life (track 13)
  7. Always (track 20)
  8. Red Eyes (track 24)

You can now understand why I had to buy the album, I could keep adding songs to this list, but then I might as well just include the complete track list. Go to iTunes or amazon and have a preview of the songs. You won’t be disappointed. Promise!

On the Go: Rumour Has It/Someone Like You by the Glee Cast

I recently blogged about Adele and that she is awesomeness personified. Well, my favorite musical television show did a mash-up of two of her songs and it was so dope!

Santana (Naya Rivera) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) sang this mash-up with the Troubletones, and they KILLED it. I mean after making it their (well, you know…), they murdered it, skinned it, and ate it for dinner. Yes, people – it was that good!

I’m going to stop talking now and just let you play the video.

On the Go: Rolling in the Deep – Adele

For those of you that have been living under a rock…Ms. Adele is a British superstar that has banged out hit after hit for the last 3 years. I loved her last album, 19. But her latest contribution to the world, 21 is what I needed to write about.

Her voice has this smooth, sultriness to it.And if you’re not careful, you might slide into a lull that causes you to tell your job, your friends and your family to go hell so you can enjoy her all to yourself. And she’s so amazing, that no one would even blame you.

On the Go: Anberlin and Story of the Year

Went to a concert with Ceecee and our respective sisters last night. Pretty awesome if I do say so myself! If you don’t know, now would be a good time to brush up on who these two bands are.

Aside from the fact that the band members are HOT, they can really belt it out.

Whereas Anberlin’s music has a subtle Christian message about hope and love and perseverance, SotY is full-out power.

Anberlin has matured so much over the years and I am glad to know they were signed by Universal Republic last year!!

Story of the Year is an amazing performance band and deserves a label that can market them well. Hopefully that will happen soon!

On the Go: Power – Kanye West

The new Kanye West song.

This song resonates with what this nation as a whole is going through, not to mention our individual struggles with the influences we hold over our friends and acquaintances. Power is a drug that ends up corroding your thoughts and eventually causes your descent from grace. It makes you forget that you are not the be-all-end-all. Power lulls you into a false sense of confidence that you can do no wrong. At least until you fuck up and then there’s no where to go but down.

Having power is fun, but it is indiscriminate and will turn on you in the end for someone more capable of wielding it.

On the Go: There Goes My Baby – Usher

Loving loving loving this song! This is classic Usher, before “Yeah” to those days when he was U.S.H.E.R. R.A.Y.M.O.N.D.

On the Go: Breakeven – The Script

Sometimes, a song can express exactly how I’m feeling. This song is a few years late, but at one point I knew what it was like to feel like the world was ending…but only for me. The script has written an excellent song. Not their first by no means, but a recent favorite of mine.

On the Go: Shark in the Water – V.V. Brown

Traveling Like the Light

This song is so catchy and I love the pop/R&B feel of it. It’s not new at all now, but it is definitely on my ipod #1 songs playlist!

Enjoy!
